Q: What are spray drones?
A: Spray drones do the same jobs as a crop duster airplane or helicopter, but better. Rather than using a big spray boom with nozzles, drones use centrifugal disks to dispense chemicals and can control droplet size and other parameters on the fly. These drones can also apply dry products with a spinner disk on the bottom of the dry hopper.
Q: Is this more expensive than a plane or helicopter?
A: When you hire Chief Drone Services to do the application, you are able to shop your chemical with different retailers and take advantage of some attractive pre-pay prices and financing options that some provide. Despite being slightly more expensive on the application portion, the total cost of spraying is close to the same in the end. Many customers have even told us that it was cheaper!
A: One of the main spray drone advantages is that it's able to apply product closer to crop canopy and the "prop wash" from the propellers is able to get the product deeper into the canopy. This results in better coverage of the plants. Drones really shine around field borders and obstacles that other aerial applications cannot cover. We keep the product on your farm and not the neighbors and we don't run any crops over!
Q: What about drift?
A: We adhere to product labels and common sense and will not fly when the conditions don't allow us to do a good job. We use drift retardants and take other measures to put the product right on target!
Q: What about windmills and power lines?
A: Drones are able to go where others can't! We can get close to windmills and other obstacles. This includes being able to fly under many power lines that run through fields.
Q: Where do you operate?
A: Illinois Counties: Vermilion, Champaign, Iroquois, Ford, Edgar, and Douglas
Indiana Counties: Benton, Warren, Fountain, Vermillion, and Park
This is not an exclusive list. If you're interested in our services, give us a call!
Q: Are you insured?
A: Absolutely! We carry high levels of chemical, non-chemical, automotive, commercial, and general liability so you are covered.
Q: What are your qualifications?
A: Our pilots carry all necessary licenses to operate heavy drones and have the same aerial applicators license that airplanes and helicopters are required to have. Beyond the necessary licensing, our pilots have a lot of acres under their belt. Most of us also farm and will treat your acres like ours!
Q: What products and crops do you work with?
A: Fungicide/Insecticide applications are our bread and butter. We do spot applications, provided it's on label and can use lower water volume. We also apply cover crop seeding with our dry spreaders.
